ST JOSEPH'S JUSTICE AND PEACE GROUP

The Justice and Peace Group meets monthly and new members are always welcome. The Group is affiliated to the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission and through them to the National Justice and Peace Network.

We are committed to praying and working for peace and justice within our community, our country and our world. We seek to respect the integrity of the whole of creation and the dignity and freedom of every human being.  We understand peace in terms of forgiveness, reconciliation and, wherever possible, seeking non violent ways of resolving conflict.  We understand justice as the right to three basic human needs

The need for self worth – to appreciate and love oneself

The need to feel free - to determine our lives and make responsible choices

The need for hope – to believe that good is more powerful than evil

We see Jesus Christ as the answer to these basic human needs and members act in a variety of ways that aim to bring peace and justice in simple ways to ordinary lives.

We run a monthly Traidcraft stall after all masses on the last Sunday of every month to support fair trade throughout the world.

We organize Club 200 every month and the proceeds are sent to CAFOD to support projects in the far East.

Some of our members visit housebound parishioners who may be lonely or isolated.

We organize prayer vigils for specific purposes e.g. Week of Prayer for World Peace.

We are considering occasional evening talks in the parish on relevant subjects.

We aim to disseminate information and raise awareness of those who lack justice and peace.
